Volunteering

Do you have an hour or two to spare on a regular basis?  Do you enjoy meeting people?  If so we would love to hear from you.  We are currently recruiting volunteers to add to our fantastic team.

What you give:

  • your friendship and support
  • your time
  • a listening ear

What we give you:

  • full training and support from the coordinator and trustees
  • your necessary expenses
  • a fulfilling and rewarding experience

You could make a real difference to someone’s quality of life just by being you!

Bovey Community Care needs you

We provide full training and support for volunteers, the coordinator is always on hand to help with any difficulties which might arise. Training sessions include Dementia awareness, Working with Visually Impaired Clients, Working with Hearing Impaired Clients, Mental Health Awareness, Bereavement Care, the Impact of Stroke, and Knowing your boundaries amongst others.  The sessions are informative, hands-on and a great opportunity to meet your fellow volunteers.  They are always accompanied by cake!  We also hold purely social events for volunteers.

Your expenses: we pay necessary expenses such as mileage from your home to the client’s house and back, at a rate of 45p/mile, provided you live within our catchment area of Bovey Tracey, Heathfield, Hennock, Ilsington and Liverton.

Safeguarding: you will be required to undergo a DBS check (the new name for the CRB check) and to provide two references.

Application process: please Contact Us to ask for an Application form.  The coordinator will arrange to visit and take you through the application process.  References will then be taken up, and a DBS check carried out.  Specific training on befriending is then provided for all new volunteers – this enables you to start work with confidence.
